Job Description

Surrey Heath Borough Council is looking for an enthusiastic and hard-working Community Development Assistant to join our dynamic Commercial and Community Development team.

This role will focus on the planning and delivery of quality sports development, health and wellbeing and community development projects in addition to supporting the Commercial and Community Development team to deliver other high-quality events which raise the profile of Surrey Heath Borough Council.

This post would suit someone who would like to gain invaluable experience in the competitive leisure and/or community engagement industries. The successful candidate will be someone who is self-motivated, well-organised and can multi-task to ensure that deadlines and standards are suitably addressed.

Reporting in to the Commercial and Community Development Manager, the Community Development Assistant will lead on exciting key sports projects such as the Surrey Youth Games and the Surrey Heath Sports Awards in addition to handling a variety of changing day-to-day tasks and public enquiries.

The ability to manage the above tasks with a commercial mindset, identifying opportunities for income while looking for potential cost savings, will be greatly important. Also critical to the success of this post will be the ability to build positive relationships with contractors (such as the Arena Leisure Centre) and collaborate with a range of other partners across the public, private and voluntary sectors to achieve mutually beneficial goals.

The Community Development Assistant will also be responsible for working closely with local sports clubs, leisure organisations and community groups to offer funding advice, guidance on running more efficiently and support projects which help meet the council’s wider objectives.

As this role will involve community outreach work across the borough and beyond, a car and driving licence is essential.
